Samsung Galaxy Book 2 review: A better, but limited Surface rival

Samsung's Galaxy Book 2 looks like the ultimate Surface Pro rival, thanks to its crisp, vibrant display and handy new kickstand. Its long-lasting battery and speedy gigabit LTE are compelling draws, too. But its Snapdragon 850 CPU causes some programs...

Excellent battery life ; Sturdy kickstand ; Fast and always available gigabit LTE ; Brilliant screen S Pen and keyboard included

Performance lags Intel systems ; App compatibility remains questionable

But Samsung and Qualcomm cannot ignore Intel's performance advantage forever. While Microsoft has made strides in enabling native 64-bit app compatibility for Windows on ARM, it still needs to work harder at reducing the speed tradeoffs. I like the...

Samsung Galaxy Book2 review: Your workday just got longer... but in a good way

With a Qualcomm mobile chipset inside made for Windows PCs, this tablet is a glimpse at the future of work devices.

The Samsung Galaxy Book2 successfully borrows the Microsoft Surface Pro design formula, while adding long battery life and Gigabit LTE wireless. Its $1,000 price includes its backlit keyboard cover and S Pen.

The Galaxy Book2's processing performance, while improved from earlier Qualcomm Windows PCs, is still behind Intel Core i-series PCs.

The Samsung Galaxy Book2 is a clear-cut example of the always-on, always connected future of PCs. If you want to work anywhere at anytime and don't mind adding a device to your data plan, it's worth consideration.

Samsung Galaxy Book 2 review: the Surface Amateur

Samsung's latest 2-in-1 has a lot of promise, but it comes up short

Thin and light design ; Long battery life ; Integrated LTE ; Keyboard and pen are included

Windows 10 on ARM still has program compatibility issues ; 4GB of RAM is limiting ; The processor isn’t powerful enough for demanding work

Samsung’s Galaxy Book 2 is a 2-in-1 convertible tablet and laptop powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 850 processor. It’s a lot cheaper than Microsoft’s very similar Surface Pro, but it doesn’t quite hit the same bar.

Samsung Galaxy Book2

With a power-sipping Qualcomm Snapdragon 850 processor, the Samsung Galaxy Book2 Windows tablet offers excellent battery life and LTE connectivity, but it suffers from lackluster computing performance.

Excellent battery life. Thin and light. High-quality AMOLED display. Included keyboard cover and digital stylus.

Dull color scheme. Computing performance inadequate for anything other than basic productivity.

Bottom Line: With a power-sipping Qualcomm Snapdragon 850 processor, the Samsung Galaxy Book2 Windows tablet offers excellent battery life and LTE connectivity, but it suffers from lackluster computing performance.

Samsung Galaxy Book 2 tablet review: Performance takes a back seat to battery life

Samsung's Galaxy Book 2 includes the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 850 chip, which enables this Windows tablet to achieve industry-leading battery life at the cost of some performance.

Absolutely the best battery life we've seen, period ; Re-engineered tablet chassis is on a par with competition ; $999 price tag is very competitive, and includes keyboard and pen ; Optional LTE gives you connectivity on the go

Low overall performance ; Included apps aren't really necessary ; Is this app going to work? There's always some doubt

Physically, the Galaxy Book demonstrates that changing horses midstream sometimes necessitates a new harness and tack. The Galaxy Book 2 is a tad shorter, a bit wider, slightly thicker, and 0.08 pounds lighter than its predecessor. More importantly,...
