Moto X4

Motorola Moto X4 Review: Is the latest entry in Moto's mid-range X series a worthy buy? Or are you better off looking elsewhere?

Sharp glass-backed design ; Crisp display ; Smooth performance

Heavy ; Unreliable and gimmicky camera ; No AMOLED display

The Moto X4 is a compact, stylish handset at a price that’s temptingly short of the current flagship crop. However, there are several rough edges that have us questioning its position in Motorola’s increasingly crowded range.

Moto X4 review

Solid performance, daylong battery life, and an attractive, water-resistant body.

Takes great photos in good lighting ; Solid performance ; IP68 water-resistant ; Day-long battery life

Camera shutter lag is frustrating ; No Tempow Audio in Android One model ; No Android 8.0 Oreo yet

The Moto X4 offers solid performance, a promising but frustrating camera, daylong battery life, and an uncluttered Android experience in an attractive, water-resistant body. For $350 or less, depending on where and when you buy, it’s a good option over...

Motorola Moto X4 review

Once Motorola's flagship phone, the X went through an episode of multiple personality disorder in 2015 (remember the Style, Play and Force?) only to be replaced at the top by the Moto Z last year. Feeling at home in the midrange, the X-series is now in...

Moto X4 hands-on review

The Moto X4 is Motorola's middle child and it has plenty of nifty features to recommend it.

Dual camera ; Glass and metal design ; Multiple Bluetooth device support ; Reasonable price

Selective focus was sluggish ; Big bezels

Motorola Moto X4 review

Motorola's high-end phones pack punch, but entry-level and midprice Android devices are where this phonemaker really shines. With the Moto X4, the company has another midrange winner that gives you some pretty great hardware and software tricks for a...

The Moto X4 is water-resistant, has NFC, expandable memory and dual rear cameras. Motorola's variant comes with tons of useful software tricks.

The phone's camera is slow to launch and snap photos. Its wide-angle camera warps straight lines too severely.

Though it can be slow at times, the Motorola Moto X4 hits all the notes for the right price, making it a worthy midrange contender.

Motorola Moto X4

The Motorola Moto X4 phone combines midrange specs with a solid design, dual rear cameras, and built-in support for Amazon's Alexa voice assistant.

Attractive, waterproof design. Solid specs. Dual-sensor camera setup. Great battery life. Amazon Alexa enabled. Comprehensive network banding.

Picks up smudges easily.

The Moto X4 is close in price to the U11 Life, but gives you more for the money. While both phones have similar levels of overall performance and solid features, the X4 pulls ahead due to its superior camera capabilities, broader carrier compatibility,...

Review: Motorola Moto X4

At $330 from Amazon Prime and $400 running Android One, the Moto X4 is a bargain.

Half the price of a Galaxy S8. Sleek design and useful special features, like Moto Actions and Bluetooth speaker networking. Battery life is solid. IP68 waterproofing. 16-megapixel selfies rock.

Occasional lag and the usual Android update woes (unless you buy the Android One version). 32GB of storage will fill up fast. Rear cameras are slow.

Moto X4 Android One review: A good reminder of what a great deal looks like

Android One is the new Nexus program, and the Moto X4 Android One is the phone to get if you're a diehard Android user on a budget and want to subscribe to Google's Project Fi.

Premium, glass-covered chassis is seriously cool ; Android One program ensures you receive crucial security and software updates right from Google ; IP68 Water Resistant

Low light photography isn't as capable as other mid-tier phones

Google truly wants to convince you to purchase the Moto X4 Android One on Project Fi. If you’re not enticed by the offer of unlimited photo backup to Google Photos, constant and consistent software updates, or Android as Google meant it to be, then...

Motorola Moto X4 Android One review: a Nexus by any other name

Android One's first appearance in the US is a strong start

Great build quality, with water resistance ; Fast, clean software ; Promise of software updates for two years

Slow camera performance ; Average image quality from camera ; Only available through Project Fi

Given Google’s commitment to the Pixel brand and its statements that it has “no plans” for future Nexus products, Android One phones are the closest thing we’re likely to get to the Nexus line. And the Moto X4 is the closest thing to a Nexus successor...

Motorola Moto X4 review: In a tough spot

On the one hand we welcome the X back to the fold, on the other it needed to be pushing the flagship stakes as the non-Moto Mod device. When it hits

Comfortable design for one-handed use ; Effective fingerprint scanner ; Waterproofing ; OLED screen ; Intelligent Moto applications integrate well with Android software

Design looks plastic (but isn't) ; Cameras look odd ; Software experience is a little slow (camera app slow to launch) ; Outshone by other mid-price phones ; Ought to feel more like Moto's non-Mod flagship

There was a time when the Moto X was the business. In the here and now, however, the Moto X4 simply doesn't live up to its predecessors' high-ranking abilities. For times have changed and, as it stands, the X4 is outshone by the not-much-pricier...
