The Fire Max 11 is a surprisingly good budget tablet that is – as ever – let down by a lack of choice when it comes to which apps you can install. However, if the apps you want are in the Appstore or you can use web apps, it’s a good choice at this price.

The Amazon Fire Max 11 has a large, 11-inch display and is blazing fast, making it a good alternative to pricier tablets for streaming and games.

But I also want to be able to write in Google Docs, watch YouTube videos, and play the latest tablet games well enough to enjoy them. And to do that, I need an Android tablet with fewer restrictions on how I can use it. That, or an iPad.
