The HP TouchSmart 520-1047c is a large screen desktop with a midrange price tag. It's a good, basic system for the touch enthusiast, but it falls behind the competition on some key features.

USB 3.0. Large touch screen. Minimal bloatware. 1.5TB hard drive. 2-year warranty.

No HDMI in or out. No Blu-ray. Low powered integrated graphics.

The retail-only ; offers solid performance for its price, and has most of the features we look for in a midrange all-in-one.

The lack of an HDMI input is inexcusable, but worse is the fact that you can get the same model for $50 less via HP.com.

HP does shoppers a disservice with the inconsistent pricing between this otherwise decent retail-only desktop and the more affordable, identical model available via HP's Web site.

HP TouchSmart 520xt

HP's new ; has a reasonable selection of up-to-date features, including USB 3.0 and HDMI input.

Touch all-in-ones from competing vendors, and from HP itself, offer similar or better performance at lower prices.

An off-kilter value equation makes it hard for us to recommend the otherwise serviceable HP TouchSmart 520xt.
